Radial Shockwave Therapy in Denver

Sometimes, a problem just hangs around longer than it should. Maybe your heel still bothers you when you walk. Your shoulder keeps flaring up. Or that tight spot in your low back never seems to fully let go, no matter how much you stretch it. For those kinds of stubborn issues, Dr. Glenn Hyman may bring radial shockwave therapy into the mix. He recently added it at Denver Chiropractic Center as another option for muscle and tendon problems that need a little more than hands-on care alone.

What Is Radial Shockwave Therapy?

Radial shockwave therapy uses a handheld device to deliver controlled pulses of pressure into the area being treated. Radial shockwave delivers pressure waves over a broader treatment area, making it particularly useful for many of the muscle and tendon problems Dr. Hyman treats. Not everyone needs it. He determines whether it’s suitable based on your individual problem and response to other care.

When Might Shockwave Be Used?

Radial shockwave is commonly used for persistent tendon and soft-tissue problems and may be considered for conditions such as:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Elbow tendinitis
  • Deep muscular trigger points
  • Shoulder and rotator cuff problems
  • Hamstring injuries
  • Stubborn low back tightness

It may also be considered for athletes and active patients dealing with persistent muscle or tendon problems.

What to Expect

There’s no special preparation or additional paperwork. Wear comfortable workout clothes so Dr. Hyman can easily access the treatment area. You’ll feel repeated pulses from the device, with the intensity adjusted for comfort. Treatment typically adds about five to 10 minutes to a regular chiropractic visit. Some patients notice a change after the first treatment, while persistent tendon problems typically require a series of treatments. The number and frequency depend on the condition and how you respond. Radial shockwave is not covered by insurance and is paid separately out of pocket.
